Social Justice

----Carl Selkin

This year our Social Justice Shabbat celebrates the bridge between the civil rights movement led by Dr. Martin Luther King and the Jewish community, represented by the amazing Rabbi Israel Dresner. Dresner began his career in activism at 18, protesting the denial of landing rights to the refugee steamer Exodus. Dresner marched with Dr. King from Selma to Montgomery and was a participant in the March on Washington and the Freedom Ride of clergy through the South.  His son, writer and filmmaker Avi Dresner, will discuss his father’s life as an activist and the film he is creating “The Rabbi and the Reverend,” about Israel “Sy Dresner and Dr. King. Join us in the Sanctuary at 6:15 for services and the program  See the flier for RSVP.

Save the date for our annual HIAS Shabbat weekend on Sunday, February 4 at 10:15 a.m. for this popular bagel breakfast with a speaker yet to be determined from HIAS.  HIAS is deeply involved in the refugee situation in Israel as the result of October 7. More information to follow as the date approaches.
