Leona Berzon
Leona Berzon, daughter of Lisa Demidovich and Jeremy Berzon, will be called to the Torah on November 4 as a Bat Mitzvah. Leona is an enthusiastic 7th grader at Chandler School. Leona is passionate about calling out any injustice she witnesses.
Leona loves adventure. She has visited all 50 states, 53 U.S. National Parks, and four continents. The highlight of this past year was going to Israel with PJTC. Leona enjoys watching LA professional sports teams in person, playing soccer, speaking Mandarin, reading realistic fiction, writing poetry, watching romantic comedies, trying out new boba places, baking, and creating mocktails.
For her Mitzvah Project, Leona has volunteered weekly in the American Youth Soccer Organization’s Buddy Program where she played soccer with kids whose physical or mental abilities make it difficult to successfully participate on mainstream teams. Leona is also encouraging donations to be made to Yad LaKashish, which she visited during PJTC’s Israel trip, and gives Jerusalem’s needy elderly a sense of purpose, self-worth and connection by teaching them how to make artisan goods in a warm community environment. Rebecca Guberman
Rebecca Guberman, a 7th grader at Westridge School, has consistently showcased her dedication and leadership qualities from a young age. Her educational journey began at B'nai Simcha Preschool, after which she attended Weizmann Day School for her elementary education and started at Westridge in 4th grade. During her time at Westridge, Rebecca was honored with the position of President of the lower school, a testament to her natural ability to lead and her commitment to her studies and dedication to everything she does. Rebecca is not only kind and dedicated but also deeply rooted in strong Jewish values. Outside of her academic pursuits, she possesses a profound love for the arts. Whether it's pouring her heart into a beautiful piece of artwork or resonating the deep melodies of her cello, Rebecca’s passion shines brightly. Her Mitzvah project is in line with her passion for art and jewish values. She will be doing a Mural at the synagogue dedicated to Rabbi Aimee Z"L.
