Board of Directors Meeting
May 22, 2023
The Board of Directors held its regular meeting on Monday, May 22. The Treasurer’s report indicated that PJTC is in a strong cash position for the end of the fiscal year. During the executive session after the regular meeting a line-by-line review of the budget for the coming fiscal year was done (This is done in executive session because of salary and other sensitive issues in the budget details.). The budget will be presented for approval at the next Board meeting which was rescheduled to Wednesday, June 28 at 7:00 pm because of the congregational trip to Israel.
Other items were:
- The Cantor described a pilot program for Friday night services to begin after the High Holy Days for about six months. The evening would begin with a nosh at 5:30, followed by shira and “warm up” at 6:00, and regular services from 6:15 to about 7:15. It is hoped that this arrangement would be more appealing to families with children. The plan has been discussed with upcoming b’nai mitzvah families. The Cantor will be reaching out to Friday night regulars to address any concerns.
- A farewell Shabbat for Rabbi Carrier is being planned for Saturday, June 10.
- Todd Levine reviewed the progress of construction projects: Fire alarm installation for the B’nai Simcha and classroom area have begun. Replacing floor covering in upstairs classrooms will start the beginning of June. Additional work is being done on the nursery cottage to repair water damage. Bids will be obtained for repairing the parking lot damage caused by the roofers.
- A new comprehensive Personnel Policies Manual has been started and will be ready for review in June.
- To encourage community engagement and help put the “center” back in PJTC, Monday night basketball and Tuesday night juggling are back.
- A new schedule for custodial coverage is being developed, so members are encouraged to consolidate meetings and events.
- The Carltons were thanked for hosting a successful Guardians event.
