Summary |
In this week’s parashah, Terumah, God tells the Israelites, “Bring me gifts!” Ok, I’m paraphrasing a little bit and the context IS important (basically, God is telling the Israelites to build a house so that God can visit them regularly and wants only THE BEST for this house!), but this is the gist of the parashah. The other really significant piece is that God only wants gifts from people who are n’div lev, something I like to translate as ”whose heart is moved.” God doesn’t want to force anyone to participate, but instead wants gifts from people who are willing to give.
QUESTIONS FOR YOU:
Have you ever volunteered to help build anything (physical or metaphorical)? What “gifts” did you bring with you to help? How do you impress upon your children the importance of giving willingly to create something?
