RABBI AIMEE’S JEWISH PARENTING TORAH TOPIC…Passing The Torch
July's kick-off parashah, Pinchas, holds some really important insight for us regarding what it means to reflect on your own mortality and when we should or should not let go of something. God reminds Moses that, just like his brother, he will die at some point in the not-too-distant future and that Joshua will take his place as the leader of the Israelites.
While it’s difficult to imagine what it must have been like for Moses to hear from God(!!!) that his days are numbered, as we grow, we become more and more aware of our mortality. Some might find dwelling on it macabre, but it does help us refine what is important to us and what we want to let go of.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR YOU:
When is it hard for you to to let other people take over? When is it best for a new leader to take over? How do you ensure success when a new leader takes over?
