Sisterhood: Supporting Women's Room

The Women’s Room at Friends in Deed is starting to accept food from providers to help serve the most vulnerable in our community.  Director Marlene Martinez has reached out to Sisterhood and asked if our group would once again provide homemade lunches to feed about 15 women once each month. Many of you were involved in this endeavor before the lock down and I hope you will agree to participate again, and I hope many more of you will sign on as well to help us out.

We will be responsible for bringing a salad, a main dish and a fruit dish to serve 15 women on the third Thursday of each month, our first being April 15. No soup or chili is needed at this time.

Here is the official rundown from Marlene:

1. Food should be dropped off at or before 11:30am on the scheduled day.

2. Prepare food for 15 guests (The Women’s Room gets anywhere between 11-15 guests a day and provides second helpings when able to do so).

3. Parking in the facility parking lot is a bit complicated right now, so one person delivering all food items please!

4. Typical meal as before with the exception of soup includes a green salad, fruit salad and main dish (sandwiches, chicken, casseroles, etc.); dessert is not necessary, but it is always a welcome treat.

5. Food items that are not too popular include tuna, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

6. Ranch dressing is the most popular.

7. Please send food in disposable containers.

I am happy to coordinate this mitzvah project, including delivery, once again so please let me know if you would like to be included by emailing me at debbysinger@sbcglobal.net.  Thanks for your help!
